Our Services

Support for Immediate Needs and the Path Ahead.

Homelessness is a personal experience, and each person’s journey toward safety, stability and housing will look different. Some people may need a safe place to sleep or a warm meal. Others may need help replacing identification, connecting with healthcare, navigating legal systems or understanding what supports are available.

The Cold Lake John Howard Society provides a continuum of practical, person-centred services that respond to both immediate needs and longer-term goals. Our staff work alongside each person to explore their options, build on their strengths and identify the supports that are right for them.

Our services are confidential, non-judgmental, trauma- and violence-informed and recovery-oriented. A referral is not required to reach out or ask for support.

How Our Services Work Together

A person may access one service or several services over time. Someone may first connect with us for a meal or overnight shelter and later receive help replacing identification, applying for income support, accessing healthcare or exploring housing options.

Support is not always a straight or predictable path. Our role is to meet people where they are, respect their choices and help them identify a next step that feels manageable and meaningful.

Cold Lake John Howard Society acknowledges that we operate on Treaty 6 Territory, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/Saulteaux/ Anishinaabe, and Inuit. We respect the histories, languages, and cultures of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and all First Peoples of Canada who enrich our community. We continue to explore our relationship to the land and reflect on what it means to be Treaty people.

We are dedicated to addressing Indigenous homelessness through our partnerships which benefit Indigenous clients, as well as clients facing barriers due to their ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.

There is much work to be done to close these gaps and move towards reconciliation. We are committed to providing support and resources to ensure that everyone in our city has a safe place to call home.
